The IMDS is the material data system of the automotive industry. It's a common development of leading automobile manufacturers. In IMDS all materials that are used in vehicle construction are managed and archived. So it's possible to meet the commitments, being imposed on the automobile manufacturers and finally the subcontractors by national and international norms, standards, law and regulations.

Towards the automobile manufacturer the manufacturer of the workpiece and the plater have the shared task to feed reliable data to the IMDS. Hereby the tasks are split as follows: 

- The supplier of the surfase coating enters a Material Data Sheet (MDS) to IMDS. For current coatings this task has been taken over by the "Zentralverband für Oberflächen" (ZVO) with the IMDS committee. As supplier of the surface coating we inform our customers about the applicable MDS according to the applied coating.

- The manufacturer of the workpiece finally creates the entry for the workpiece.

With system log-in you log in with your user name. By "search" you get to the search mask and choose the tab "Materials". Now choose "IMDS-committee" with company-ID "423".

For example, with the entry "galv." you obtein a survey over the galvanic coatings.
